Our Classes
So many choices. So little time!
Music Co-Op
Opening Meeting
We begin our co-op day with a meeting for prayer, announcements, and group instruction in solfege or reading rhythm in music, both of which are part of our comprehensive music education. See www.ibreathemusic.com/article/44/ for an explanation of solfege.
Choir
Our first co-op class is choir. Our directors continue to teach solfege in their choirs as well as other fundamentals of singing. We have four choirs available, based on the ages of the students.
Music Theory
As part of our mission to provide comprehensive music education, we have Music Theory classes for all students. Having a strong knowledge base in Theory allows students to progress in their choir and with their instruments at a much quicker pace. Beginning in 2nd Grade, students will use Theory Time textbooks. All students must complete theory through the level 3 theory book.
Instrument Classes
We offer beginning, intermediate and advanced sectional classes for students in grades 3-12 for brass, woodwind, percussion and strings. Recorder classes are offered to students in grades 2-3. Children in Pre K4 - Grade 1 are encouraged to take part in rhythm band instruction.
Band
Beginning Band and Beginning Strings are offered for our beginning instrument students. Our intermediate and advanced instrument students will play in the Intermediate and Advanced Orchestras.
Dance & Drama Co-Op
Creative Movement & Theatrics
This course will incorporate drama and dance for the younger students ages 4-6. The students will learn beginning ballet as well as have fun preparing for their end of the year performance.
Theatre Classes
Theatre classes will be offered for two age groups: Junior (6-12) and Senior (13+). All students will learn about backstage techniques as well as have an opportunity to perform onstage. Our theater classes give one performance at the end of the school year.
